Simon's father drove police cars in the 1970s and '80s, so with only three TV channels, he spent his time gazing at V6 Capris, Granadas, and V8 Rovers. He then spent 40 years driving an A–Z of vehicles — from AC to Bentley, Porsche, TVR… even Zastava.
He was a police pursuit driver and motorcyclist in the 1990s during the joyriding epidemic, before spending 20 years as a detective in the UK and Europe alongside freelance driving work for multiple agencies.
He was part of the European HERMES Driver Coaching project, which developed the Goals for Driver Education matrix, and worked with Sir John Whitmore on business and driver development projects.
Since retirement, he has worked for multiple manufacturers on road and track, and works with a leading defence barrister specialising in traffic law offences.
He has coached police instructors, close protection teams, and current advanced instructors outside the police framework (not push-pull!), as well as private individuals keen to take their driving to a new level.
Going sideways in the Drift Championship and Silver Arrows Display Team, instructing at the Nürburgring, and dancing on ice at Juha Kankkunen's Driving Academy created a hybrid driving style with road, track, and frozen lake tools in the toolbox.
He can help raise your awareness when "being the driver" — analysing what you do and what the car does — before offering the opportunity to change how you operate at the edge of grip… or spot that unexpected tractor a little earlier on a country road.
